I Have a Bad Attitude
Living here comes with a big learning curve. What could I possibly mean? The Marine Code.
It doesn't matter if you're another branch of the military. You must adhere.
It doesn't matter if you're off duty, in civvies (not to be confused with skivvies). You must adhere.
It doesn't matter if you're actually a civillian. You still. Must. Adhere.
Or get out.
So what does this Marine code entail that annoys me so much??
Men must always be clean shaven. Always.
No one may wear work out clothes.
Tank tops are prohibited.
Any clothing that shows your midriff at all is prohibited.
Spaghetti straps are prohibited.
"Excess cleavage" is prohibited.
There was more but I was fuming so damn hard, I quit reading. We've been to many Exchanges and Commissaries, from FL to VA. NEVER has it been such a damn pain in the ass. More, the entire base follows these rules. If you need a parking pass, they will not help you and you will be kicked out and asked who your sponsor is (so he can be held responsible) if you do not adhere.
I'm serious when I tell you that I have a VERY bad attitude about this. Like, I'm ready to wear the sluttiest, most naked shit I've ever worn in my life and go walking around like wazzup. And I know that would be bad.
So the truth is, I should just never go on base.
Ever.
Because I'm apparently looking to pick a damn fight. With the Marines. Which is stupid.
Yay freedom, right?
... I mean really, no work out clothes? If I wore something someone thought I might work out in, I'd be kicked out. It's yoga pants time, girls. What? It's not workout clothes, it's YOGA clothes. I do yoga for relaxation, not to workout. AmIright? This is what I mean by pick a fight. I'm ready to take these Marines and their codes down orally.
Wait. That doesn't sound right.

The marines are going down! Orally! Do I have this right? Good thing you're not taking on the Navy. That would be a lot of Seamen
I'm not sure you have the stomach for that
They do have a few rules in the military. But you just adjust.
@TheTheologiansCafe - I don't adjust well. I reposition.
And it isn't the military. It's only the Marines. They're so hard. So rigid.
@PrincessPowers - That's what she said.
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Oh wow! I can see why you're upset. Geez!
Yep, I remember my brother talking about something like this. The Army has this kind of crazy code too. Some weird stuff about the color of the umbrella a soldier can use (apparently, black only) and other offenses. It all came up because my brother passed along some desert fatigues to me and it has WELCH across the pocket. You can tell they're genuine Army issued fatigues. So I asked him if I would get in trouble for wearing them. He told me it was okay because it didn't include any of his rank insignia. But if it had, I could be arrested. Although he assured me it would be highly unlikely. Yeah... sure.
@MyxlDove - We were told that patches including name patches must be removed before discarding any uniform. Just a word of warning.
@PrincessPowers - Great. Sheesh... well, I haven't worn them out in public yet. He actually gave them to me to use when I go paintballing. I'll check with him just to be sure before I do that though.
@MyxlDove - Just remove the damn name patch. Problem solved.
@PrincessPowers - But I LIKE the name patch! It boosts the cool factor of having them in the first place.
lol
@MyxlDove - Yeah, because you're Impersonating an Officer. Pretending a service you never served. Looks cool, but isn't legit.
It's fun to dress up, I get that. But it isn't right.
@PrincessPowers - Well, when you put it like that...
O_O Are these rules actually enforced?
If so, what do they do with the civilians? Call your husband's chain of command or something? This actually makes me really grateful for the tacky Army wives of Grafenwoehr, which is not something I ever thought I would say. Pfft. I would be pissed too.
@WaitingToShrug - Josh witnessed it being enforced, yes. A female dependent was refused service at the pass building until she changed her clothes. And an off-duty soldier was kicked out of the mess hall for not being clean-shaven.
Oh, I don't know what they do after that. They took down the dependent woman's sponsor's name. I don't know how they used that. I've heard that the "bad behavior" of the spouse is held accountable to the sponsor
@PrincessPowers - Ugh, that's f-ed up. I can't imagine a better way to make soldiers and their families feel isolated and uncomfortable. Way to go, Marines. :/
@WaitingToShrug - I can understand it as it applies to servicemembers themselves, they to a great extent signed away their rights when they enlisted. But I, as a military wife, did not sign any such thing. I honestly don't know where they get off making (and enforcing) rules as they apply to my body and my moral code to what is and is not appropriate. I'm not government property the way Josh is.
@PrincessPowers - Very true. But even then, it seems weird to me (maybe not morally wrong, but weird) to apply those rules to non-Marines. I guess, when on a Marine base, do as the Marines do? But I thought they were all about standing out from the rest of the military crowd...
There are some things that are not rational about the military. Lol, understatement of the year, am I right? But seriously, that blows. What if you are going to the gym? *shrugs* Hey, when you leave, I dare you to moon them on the way out. I am a bad influence.
